For a track day driver part of the whole trackday experience is enjoying the process of picking out the lines, where to brake, how hard to feed in the power and understand the handling characteristics of our own pride and joy. The best way to do that is to get someone that really knows what they are doing to hop in the passenger seat next to you for some serious track day driving tuition. This doesn’t mean your mate or the biggest mouth in the paddock shouting about his prowess. I’m talking about ARDS qualified instructors. They are great. They will bring you on leaps and bounds guaranteed and will be the best money you will ever spend on going faster.
What are the benefits with either a full or half days proper instruction:
- You will be using the correct line through the corners rather than the one you think is right.
- You will be braking later, less, or maybe not at all, for corners you were ‘throwing out the anchor’ for previously.
- You will become smoother around the circuit.
- You will be taught techniques you would never have known about previously that make a significant difference to the handling characteristics of any car.
- Going round a circuit fast will, very quickly, become easier.
- Tyre wear should be more even giving better overall life.
- Your car will like you more!
Another reason for instruction: One of the biggest frustrations for any ‘own vehicle’ track day driver has to be the unpredictable driver in front of you. Going a bit slow or being a novice on an event is not the problem. It’s the person that seems to be unable to work out track day driving and is completely unaware of it. Braking miles before a corner, taking unpredictable lines or going unbelievably slow through the corners and then rocketing down the straights is a bit of a nightmare. Unfortunately they probably won’t ask for instruction. So if you know them its your duty to convince them to take instruction somehow! You will be doing them and everyone else a major favour.
You can have the exclusive use of a highly qualified ARDS track day instructor for the whole day or half a day on any date and circuit in the UK. These instructors have masses of experience instructing all levels of driver from the first time track day drivers to the highly experienced. They are able to assess your skills and pin point very quickly the areas you are good at and those that need attention. Their strength is knowing what you need, how to do it and communicating it in a way that makes sense to you.
